This week the 6th grade art classes started their unit on One-Point Perspective. Students are learning how to transform a geometric shape into a geometric solid. Each student is using the principle of linear perspective to transform a square into a cube.
The students are learning many new terms related to the use of perspective,shading and the light and shadow system.
Students are also using the concept of value and cast shadow to bring out the
three-dimensional illusion in their cube.
In the area of art contests at Lakeview Jr.High:
Congratulations goes to Rebecca Martinez who has been selected as the winner of the Class of 2010 Grad Cover Design contest at Lakeview.
In the area of community news:
All 2D and 3D artwork should be brought to the art room by Tuesday, April 6,2010 for the annual community Downers Grove Junior Woman's Club art contest.
See Miss Lehrer in the art room for help with the matting of your work. This art contest is open to 7th and 8th grade artists.

6th Grade Arts begin art appreciation unit on Elements and Principles
This week the 6th grade artists began a unit on the Elements and Principles of Art. The students are learning about elements such as line,shape,form,color,value,space,and texture and their relationship to a work of art
Also, students have begun to learn the many Principles of Art which include unity,balance,rhythm,proportion,dominance,contrast,movement and pattern.
We are exploring the relationship of these principles to the creation of a work of art.
In addition, we have started to analyze how an element or principle of art is used in a major work of art.
In the area of community news:
7th and 8th grade artists should stop by the art room to pick up entry forms for the annual Downers Grove Junior Woman's Club Junior High Art Contest.
Also, recently a variety of 8th grade artwork has been posted to the Lakeview Jr.High Web Art Gallery on the Center Cass School District 66 Home Page. This work includes drawings,gold metal scratchboard designs,and clay sculptural works of art.

3rd Trimester begins with 6th grade Art
This week the 6th grade students started art class. We began this week with an imaginary drawing that could have elements of realism. Students used their imagination to create an image that was of importance to them.
In addition, we began our unit on cartooning and cartooning techniques. Students drew various cartoon images with an interactive video. The students were very successful in their first drawing experiences.
